When to Change Vauxhall Car Van Tyres

  • You are legally responsible to make sure your car or van tyres are in an acceptable condition and depth of tread
  • If your tyre tread is thin car or van performance gets worse
  • You also need to check your car or van tyre pressure

Legal Vauxhall Car & Van Tyre Limits

  • Readings taken at three points around the width of each tyre must average more than 1.6mm depth tread
  • Penalties currently include £2,500 plus 3 points on your driving licence for each illegal tyre

Why Approach Vauxhall Recommends 3mm Depth Tread Minimum

A Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents ( RSPA ) study shows that once a tyre has less than 3mm depth tread performance deteriorates quickly :
  • “ Just legal ” tyres are about two thirds as effective as new tyres on hot rolled tarmac…
  •  … and they are little more than half as effective as new tyres on smooth concrete
